I’m so, so pleased to finally be able to shout about these gorgeous illustrations and this fantastic cover from Laura Barrett.

SCISSORELLA: The Paper Princess, will be published by Andersen Press on 4th November, just in time for Christmas. It’s a reworking of the classic Cinderella tale, inspired by the life and work of German animator Lotte Reiniger, whose techniques & inventions inspired the early work of Disney & countless animators & CGI artists since.

Laura Barrett, the awesome illustrator for this project, is another who has been inspired by Lotte’s work. Laura says,

“I discovered the stunning paper cut animations of Lotte a while back, and her work has been a huge source of inspiration to me over the years. So I was thrilled to be commissioned by Andersen Press and teamed up with Clare’s imaginative text with a feminist twist. I worked in a different style for this picture book, using paper texture as a nod to Lotte’s original paper cuts.”
