To celebrate publication of Scissorella; The Paper Princess, I’ve been busy reading, creating and speaking with lots of school children.
Despite being my ninth picture book, I’ve yet to meet any of the illustrators I’ve worked with… until now! Laura Barrett and I got together via the power of Zoom with Heather at Reading Rocks, to deliver a virtual story session. The schools, that were all over the country from Liverpool to Cornwall, listened to Laura and I reading the story and were quizzed on their fairy tale knowledge. Then Laura showed the children how to make a Lotte Reiniger-inspired puppet.
The celebrations continued with a tour of local schools in Devon. Thanks to Stowford Primary, Shaugh Prior Primary School, Cornwood Primary School, Sherford Vale Primary School for welcoming me and to The Ivybridge Bookshop for providing the book to the children.
Special thanks to The Erme Primary School – it was extra lovely to visit because this was the first school I taught at after qualifying as a teacher!
Sherford Vale Primary School:
The Scissorella Schools Tour ended with a virtual visit to Wroughton Infant School!
Finally, did you see the gorgeous Scissorella window display at The Ivybridge Bookshop? Thanks to Sherry from St Ives who made the beautiful carriage and all the props!
If you’ve read Scissorella and enjoyed it, do let us know!
