Goodbye January Blues!

The good news is coming thick and fast this January… I am super excited to share with you that I have my very own agent! The lovely Alice Williams, from David Higham Associates, will be championing my future work to publishers in 2015 and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I met with Alice in London on 13th January, where we talked through my submissions and she answered my many questions. Alice has a fantastic list of clients and I feel very honoured to be working with her.

It’s amazing (and a little daunting!) to think that my stories will be read by the top industry professionals. There’s certain to be ups and downs, and downs and ups, but in the meantime there’ll be friends and family, especially these two terrors!

SILVER MEDAL at Greenhouse Funny Prize

green

I am thrilled and ecstatic (and quite frankly shocked!) to announce that my picture book ‘The Aerodynamics Of Biscuits’ has won Silver Medal at this year’s Greenhouse Funny Prize. With special thanks to the judges, including Polly Nolan at the Greenhouse Literary Agency and The Children’s Editorial Team at Faber&Faber Ltd, I am happy to declare that dreams DO come true… and often when you least expect them to. Huge congratulations also to Swapna Haddow on her winning submission ‘Dave Pigeon,’ due for publication in 2016. I can’t wait to read it! THE BEGINNING: The Margaret Carey Scholarship

scbwiMy picture book adventure actually began in 2013 with an application to a very special scholarship. Encouraged that someone somewhere had seen something in my writing, this is where it all began… with an idea, a scholarship and The SCBWI-BI Conference in Winchester.

I was determined to make the most of this opportunity; gain industry contacts, top tips for submission and interest in my picture book, but I hadn’t envisaged also meeting a whole lot of lovely people and taking on a new role for the SCBWI Words&Pictures Celebrations Team!

I would recommend an application to this scholarship to everyone considering it. It might be the beginning of your big, brave adventure too! You can read more about the scholarship here: http://www.wordsandpics.org/2014/01/welcome-in-new-year-with-margaret-carey.html?m=1
