WORLD BOOK WEEK 2024

World Book Week is an opportunity to shine a light on the wonderful world of books and reading for pleasure. It’s a week filled with creative costumes, buzzy book chat and a chance to inspire a love of reading amongst children and grown ups alike.

I’ve been reflecting on the week and all the places it took me this year.

NEVER, EVER, EVER ASK A PIRATE TO A PARTY!

The last couple of weeks have involved lots of exciting celebrations in aid of Never Ever Ever Ask A Pirate To A Party, which was released on 6th July. It’s a funny story featuring a dinosaur, a dragon, a unicorn, a pirate . . . and a spaceship full of aliens!

This bright and giggle-inducing picture book has been illustrated by Anne-Kathrin Behl and published by Nosy Crow – a fantastical birthday adventure with colourful scenes and plenty to spot, as well as a simple message about sharing good times with friends.

Return of the library visits!

It was wonderful to be back doing in-person library events again after TWO YEARS! I was touched to see lots of familiar faces and it’s always fantastic to meet new families, too. Thanks to Torquay library and Newton Abbot library for hosting these Time To Move South For Winter events. We made butterflies from milk bottles, migration mobiles and recreated some of Jenny’s beautiful artwork with pastels and black card!

Time to Move South for Winter – Launch WEEK!

At this time of year, the Arctic terns will be readying for their annual migration south. And things have been busy here, too!

On September 2nd, Time to Move South for Winter was officially published with Nosy Crow, illustrated by my hugely talented co-creator, Jenny Løvlie. I’ve been a fan of Jenny’s work for a while. She is the illustrator of The Girls/The Boys (written by Lauren Ace) and the Kitty series (written by Paula Harrison.) You can find out more about Jenny’s work here.
